From the introduction: "Often as the campaign of Waterloo has been described by historians and frequently as it has been celebrated in fiction it has rarely been narrated from the standpoint of a private soldier participating in it and telling only what he saw. But what renders WATERLOO still more interesting is the picture it presents of the state of affairs after the first Bourbon restoration, and its description of how gradually but surely the way was prepared by the stupidity of the new regime for that return to power of Napoleon which seems so dramatically sudden and unexpected to a superficial view of the events of the time.".

Seller: Cat's Curiosities, Pahrump, NV, U.S.A.
Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. We list this novel as Czech, since "Pokracovani Romanu '1813'" ("continuation of the novel '1813'") sounds like Czech to us, as does the opening line "Nikdy jsem nevidel nic radostnejsiho, nez navrat . . ." ("I have never seen anything more joyous than returning . . .") -- even though some contend "francouzskeho vydani prelozil Jarka Nevole" ("translated from the French by . . . ") sounds more like Slovak. While the final word of this book -- "Konec" -- clearly means "The End" . . . in Slovenian. One would think a book published in 1919 in Praze (Prague), and clearly not German, could be assumed to be Czech, but the buyer may of course inspect our scans and decide for him- or herself. 308 pp. Reduced from $16.
