Large folio sized volume. ***With 10 colour plates (printed on thick brown art paper) along with colour illustrations at the beginning and end of each chapter. Comes with five extra plates kept in a separate pocket at the back of the book - note that there should be 10 extra plates, so some must have been framed up by a previous owner. ***Very good in green cloth-covered boards, with white titles to the spine, and white titles and dragon decoration to the front board. Boards slightly marked. Edges of boards slightly rubbed. Corners and head and tail of spine quite rubbed. Top edge of text-block stained green to match the cloth, as called for. Some sporadic foxing throughout, otherwise contents clean. No inscriptions. ***310 x 240 mm. 265 pages. ***The White Dragon was written and beautifully illustrated by Logi Southby who, after initial training at Art College, worked as a fashion artist and then fashion editor at The Daily Mail. This fascinating children?s book tells the story of a prince's journey from stroppy youngster to regal happiness, via the traditional quest including the slaying of a dragon.     Cloth. Condition: Very Good. Logi Southby (illustrator). A beautifully illustrated work by Southby. Illustrated with ten pochoir plates. Lacking the duplicate set in the pocket to the rear, which has been removed. Pochoir is a form of stencil art work, a refined techinque of making fine limited editions of stencil prints, also called hand colouring. It is a style of artwork used by artists such as Picasso and Joan Miro, and is here used by the author. In a cloth binding. Externally, generally smart with rubbing to the extremities and head and tail of the spine. Front hinge slightly strained. Rear pastedown has had the pocket removed. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and clean with light spotting to first and last few pages. Very Good. book.

An envelope affixed to rear pastedown contains a full set of additional plates "for framing". PART I has Chapters I - X; PART II, Chapters I - VIII. Each chapter has additional illustrations at start and finish. The text concludes:'Bedford, February, 1931 - March, 1932.' All tight, bright and clean, with a small speckling of foxing here and there.Free from any markings,inscriptions or labels. Dustwrapper unclipped (price on front and spine, 21/-, i.e. an old guinea, a not inconsiderable amount at the time), predominantly complete but age-toned - more so to spine, which has several small losses.
