A nice letter to a social acquaintance. Written in Pardoe's light, sloping hand. Julia Pardoe (1804-1862) was an English poet, novelist, and travel writer known for her lively and accessible works on European and Near Eastern subjects. She achieved early success with her poetry before turning to prose, publishing popular historical romances and richly detailed accounts of her travels, particularly in Ottoman Empire and Turkey. Her best-known works include The City of the Sultan and The Beauties of the Bosphorus, which helped shape Victorian perceptions of the East.
