Hardcover. Condition: Very good +. Dust Jacket Condition: very good +. Barry Moser (illustrator). SIGNED. 268pp. Square octavo [24 cm] 1/4 black vinyl cloth with gray cloth over boards. Green endpapers. Top edge of front board has minimal toning and the front board is also very slightly cocked. Dust jacket is in very good + condition, with some small scratches and barely noticeable discoloration to front panel. Signed in black ink by Barry Moser on the title page. With an appreciation by Justin G. Schiller. Illustrated with 62 wood engravings by Barry Moser. From the dust jacket- "While he was on vacation in the West Indies, Moser watched a huge storm from the porch of his rented cottage. Against the violently darkening backdrop of sea and sky, he imagined - "saw" - a disembodied head in the midst of the storm, and thought - "the Wizard of Oz!" From that beginning came an interpretation of Dorothy's adventures which matches in excitement and originality Moser's celebrated vision of the adventures of another young lady, Alice." Large Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Near Fine. Lisbeth Zwerger (illustrator). 2nd Printing. 2nd printing. Signed by illustrator on bookplate affixed to front endpaper. Includes 3D glasses and large color poster. 1996 Large Hardcover. 103 pp. "For many of us, the adventures of Dorothy in Oz will forever be associated not with Judy Garland singing "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" but with W. W. Denslow's exceedingly odd line drawings for the original editions of Baum's Oz series. The Viennese artist Lisbeth Zwerger, however, goes a long way toward providing a new and refreshed set of images for the Tin Man, the Cowardly Lion, and the humbug wizard. These illustrations are often cockeyed, with occasional realistic details thrown in, like a crow with a corncob in its beak in the first portrait of the Scarecrow. The characters have a poignance and oddity that escaped the makers of the Oz movie. Signed by author. Signed by illustrator.

Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Near Fine. First Edition; First Printing. There have of course been numerous variations on the Wizard of Oz, books, movies, TV, Muppets- I hid under the theatre seat during the tornado when my grandmother took me to the Judy Garland movie when I was about 6. But this one, featuring the original text of Baum's, is brought to life by the woodcuts of Barry Moser. He was inspired by a fierce storm in the West Indies, imagining a hand emerging from the storm, and thought "The Wizard of Oz." The result of this inspiration was 60+ woodcuts, all in black and gray tones, that give a somber feel to the story , quite different from singing Munchkins on the screen! The book was then published by Moser's own Pennyroyal Press in a signed, slipcased, limited edition of 350, still available if you have $3500 to spare. But this edition from the University of California Press has made this beautiful work available to, if not the masses, at least to those of us who admire Moser's signature style. This copy is signed on the title page "For Barbara, Barry Moser." The woodcut of Dorothy is titled "Despondent Dorothy", after the Wizard's Balloon has left without her. And the shoes, (silver in the book, remember?) bare no resemblance to the ruby slippers of movie fame! Condition is NF, with a tiny bit of foxing on the fore edges. Don't stop here - we also have Moser's Alice in Wonderland, illustrated anthology of Scary Stories and a volume of his own writing listed as well.; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; Signed by Illustrator.
