A dedication copy with signed inscription by Varley under the printed description that reads: "and Dave Hartwell, / at Balticon, / John Varley." A planet-sized sentient creature named Gaea orbiting around the planet Saturn is suffering a debilitating breakdown, a form of schizophrenia. She is at war with herself, therefore putting her human inhabitants at risk. Second book of the Gaean trilogy, preceded by TITAN and followed by DEMON. See Anatomy of Wonder (2004) II-1173.
