All edges gilt, publisher's brown made end papers, xii + 400 pp. Sumptuous colour chromolithographic frontis, illustrated title + 8 further chromo. plates all on heavy card paper stock with guards. Many other steel engravings in text. First Edition 1869. There is no list of illustrations to enable collation and descriptions of the book on "library hub" of copies in National and University libraries does not assist but looking through it appears that one plate may be missing. Please see our images of the actual book offered for sale for further details and condition. Fair (Book- heavy shelf wear to extremities, end papers cracked, mull holding but fragile, ink stamp "Chippens Bank" to front paste down half title and illustrated title with previous owner name and date in ink to former page. Title page strained at gutter. Glue to back strip has failed - sewing holding, foxing to prelims. last couple of leaves and to guards. Light occassional finger soiling to margins. Due to shaken text block and possible loss of one plate the book is priced and offered with all faults.
