Later, Anne became captivated by Lake Atitlan, Guatemala, one of the loveliest lakes on earth, and by a flightless waterbird which lived only here. For 25 years she has travelled between New York and Guatemala, studying the endangered Giant Grebes and fragile ecosystem of Lake Atitlan.Her search and conservation efforts resulted in Guatemala's first national wildlife refuge and a Gold Nedal for Conservation from World Wildlife Fund. 120 pages. Dr. Lovejoy was an influential ecologist, field biologist, and activist; former head of the Amazon Biodiversity Center, World Wildlife Fund, and advisor to the United Nations and Smithsonian Institution. He is credited with introducing the term 'biological diversity' to the mainstream environmental movement. In addition, he was a passionate collector of books on the natural world.
