Presentation Copy SIGNED by the Author who has written out "A Creed" [4 lines] on the front free endpaper, dated 1922; also Signed by Anna Catherine Markham, the poet's wife; small & slender 4to (6 3/4" x 9 5/8"), black cloth over blue-gray boards with black title and gilt wreath on front cover; illustrated with silhouette of bearded Markham (with tissue guard); includes facsimile manuscript of his most famous poem, "The Man with a Hoe," 47 numbered deckled pages. This is a handsome Honorary volume that includes Edwin Markham's poem, "A Creed," neatly written out, SIGNED & dated by the poet. It also contains poetic tributes by 88 then prominent American poets; among them: Bertha Avery, Faith Baldwin, Katherine Lee Bates, Charles G. Blanden, William Stanley Braithwaite, Witter Bynner, Babette Deutsch, Zona Gale, J. Conson Miller, Edwin Arlington Robinson, John Jerome Rooney, Lew Sarett, Vincent Starrett. Markham's wife Anna Catherine--poet, teacher, and lecturer--has Signed her contribution. Edwin Markham (1852 - 1940) was a prominent American poet. From 1923 to 1931 he was Poet Laureate of Oregon. This handsomely produced volume also contains a facsimile of Markham's most famous poem "The Man with the Hoe." We are unable to read the reproduced signature of the individual who executed the fine sihouette of the poet. Solid, clean volume with minimal fading, sharp corners, and flawless contents. Slight wear to corners and a bit of warping to boards.

Boards a shade toned along margins, corners gently bumped, else Very Good or better overall. Signed by contributor Anna Catherine Markham on p. 41. Also with lengthy signed inscription by Edwin Markham himself on front free endpaper reproducing a four-line stanza from the poem "Virgilia." Lovely tribute dedicated to poet and Bookfellow no. 56 with brief contributions by Witter Bynner, Zona Gale, Vincent Starrett, and a multitude of others.
