Paperback. Condition: Very good- condition. First Edition. 24 pages of text. Bound in the original untrimmed illustrated wrappers, which are moderately creased, soiled and spotted. Moderate spotting, foxing and soiling affecting the text. The rear wrapper repeats the woodcut frontispiece. Protected in a custom cloth pamphlet case, with a printed paper front cover label titled with the pamphlet's front cover title, which is "War and Pestilence!" Howes (H61) suggests authorship by W. P. Edwards. Substitute first names for the sisters were used in the title. Publisher may have been William P. Edwards, who registered the copyright. Rachel Hall Munson (d.1870); Sylvia Hall Horn (1813-1899); Black Hawk War; Sauk Indians of Illinois; Fox Indians of Illinois. Previous owner's names on the title page in pencil, one of whom acquired material from Wright Howes. In addition, on the back of the frontis there remains a price and inventory code written in Howes distinctive hand. Height measures 9.25" (235mm). First edition, first issue with "The present year." at the start of the text. Size: Octavo (8vo). Book.
