A first edition, first printing published by Morrow in 1974. A very good book without inscriptions. Some wear to the board edges. In a very good dust wrapper which is not price clipped and has some internal repair and a little chipping to the head of the spine. "The Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance" by Robert M. Pirsig is a philosophical exploration disguised as a motorcycle journey. Pirsig interweaves a motorcycle trip with his son and their friends across America with philosophical musings on the nature of quality, the meaning of life, and the intersection of technology and humanity. Through the protagonist's internal struggles and external adventures, Pirsig delves into the concept of 'quality' as a bridge between the analytical and the intuitive, offering insights into the pursuit of excellence in both craftsmanship and personal understanding. The novel is a captivating blend of narrative storytelling and profound philosophical reflection.

First edition, first printing. Published by The Bodley Head in London, 1974. This is a near fine copy. The dust wrapper, greatly illustrated by John Sewell, has some slight curling at the top edge, some corner wear and some light surface scratching. There is an area of separation to both spine tips. It has not been price clipped, rightly showing the original £2.95 net price. The boards are free from notable chips and marks, proudly bound in the publisher's brown buckram. The internals are immaculate, as are the text blocks. Overall, this is a near fine copy and free from inscriptions. Rare. It is a work of fictionalized autobiography and is the first of Pirsig's texts in which he explores his concept of Quality.
