List of plates in English; listed again in Japanese; approximately 130 pages of Japanese text; 290 plates (most black & white, a few in color). The original dark-blue silk-covered boards are in excellent shape, with silver and gilt lettering and decoration which is about as bright as when first issued. The interior is bright, crisp, and clean, despite a touch of toning to the edges and a line of offsetting on the two blank pages----front and rear. Endpapers are green. The unclipped, pictorial dustjacket has several very small tears at spine ends and corners. [Please see multiple images of the actual book.] The original cardboard case, with printed label on the spine, is still here. Two slips of paper are laid-in; one of which is an errata slip. (Both are?) An "epic-making achievement, introducing the spiritual basis of Japanese art [with] a wide ranging selection of plates and an exhaustive explanation of the relation between Zen and the artistic works the plates present, and particularly of Zen itself."
