Softcover. Condition: vg. First edition. Octavo. Unpaginated. [10]. Illustrated stapled wrappers, with white and black lettering. The work is an illustrated children's book about animals in the forest and their behavior during the winter and summer. The book begins with two pages of text in Russian, followed by eight pages of co…lor illustrations (in addition to the front and back cover) by Nina Kogan. Animals like squirrels, rabbits, foxes and birds are depicted in their seasonal coats. Wrappers age toned, with some minor rubbing and/or bumping to extremities. Back cover with some light creasing and a sheet of typewritten description in English tipped on. Minor stains to the covers. Interior with a small piece of fabric pasted on to the first page of text. Wrappers and interior in very good condition overall. Scarce. *Yevgeny Vasilievich Dubrovsky (pseudonym Lesnik, 1870-1941) was a Russian-Soviet writer and journalist. After time spend working in the Ministry of Agriculture, and as a forester and journalist, he turned to writing and took the pen name "Lesnik" meaning forester in Russian. He devoted his writing to the subjects of nature, wildlife and the outdoors, and started working in children's books and magazines. *Nina Iosifovna (Osipovna) Kogan (1889 - 1942) was a Russian artist, illustrator and art teacher. During 1910s, she was part of the avant-garde Suprematist abstract art movement, and in 1919 she joined the faculty of the famed modern art school/museum the People's Art School in Vitebsk, where she associated with many other influential artists of the period such as Kazimir Malevich, Marc Chagall and El Lizitsky. Starting in the late 1920s she illustrated children's books, mostly about animals.
