Just about fine. A catalog of classical music recordings from Victor Records, which includes nine albums of longer works like Schubert's Unfinished Symphony, with Bruno Walter conducting the Vienna Philharmonic.

Slight spotting, one small tear at bottom fold, very good+. Bing Crosby, Tony Martin and Jimmy Dorsey are among the most prominently listed artists featured here in this record catalog from Decca.

Paul Robeson's prestige at the time was sufficient enough that he was included in this mostly-classical music catalog for (RCA) Victor, in which he is also pictured.

Vintage original 8 1/2 x 5 3/8" (22 x 14 cm) pamphlet, pictorial wrappers, stapled, 32 pp. Light creasing, record store stamp on front and back covers, overall near fine. This catalog for RCA Victor subsidiary Bluebird Records covers releases up to and including August 1950. Curiously, although RCA introduced 45 rpm records in March 1949, this catalog makes no reference to them and appears to still offer only 78 rpm records. There is a strong representation of country and western singers here, including Jimmie Rodgers, Pee Wee King, Hank Snow and the Carter Family.

Clarence Bull photography stamp on verso, fine. Follies girl Hazel Brooks, who would become a film noir femme fatale and marry MGM scenic designer Cedric Gibbons, was prominent in several of the extravagant musical numbers directed by Vincente Minnelli for the Arthur Freed-produced Ziegfeld Follies. Mostly filmed in 1944 but not released until 1946, by which time Brooks had been cast in such noir thrillers as Body and Soul.

Photo agency sticker and traces of glue (not visible on front) clearly showing printed snipe was once attached, slight crease in extreme upper top, near fine. Phil Spector made a few appearances on The Merv Griffin Show in 1965, and there was one 1966 appearance in which he got into a heated argument with his host.

Backstage at the 1943 Academy Awards ceremony (for films made in 1942), Greer Garson holds her gold-painted plaster Oscar for her winning role in Mrs. Miniver. During the World War II years of 1943-1945 (for films released 1942-1944), because of metal shortages the statuettes were made in plaster. Winners were given the option to trade them in once the war ended. This is an MGM studio photo taken by an MGM photographer and used by the studio to promote Garson and her win.

For her 1940 films Dulcy and The Captain Is a Lady, Burke posed for this portrait by Clarence Bull. At 56 she retained her youthful appearance. Photo ink stamp coded B5486.

Vintage original 22 x 14" (56 x 36 cm.) theatre window card poster, USA. Unfolded, light creasing, NEAR FINE. Two decades after its very successful debut on Broadway, this unusual revival was done of the comedy about two mismatched roommates -- except this time, two women (Rita Moreno and Sally Struthers) took on the lead roles. This poster is for the play's tryout in Los Angeles prior to its Broadway run.

Stephen Thomas Erlewine in AllMusic wrote: "Along with B. B. and Freddie King, Albert King is one of the major influences on blues and rock guitar players, and without him, modern guitar music would not sound as it does -- his style has influenced blues players from Otis Rush and Robert Cray to Eric Clapton and Stevie Ray Vaughan. King's massive tone and unique way of squeezing bends out of a guitar string enormously impacted followers, especially in rock & roll, where many players who emulate his style may never have heard of Albert King, let alone heard his music. His style is immediately distinguishable from all other blues guitarists, and he holds the status of one of the most important blues guitarists to ever pick up the electric guitar." Both images are from the film Wattstax and show King performing with guitar in hand.

Wear to one back exterior page, moderate signs of handling, very good or better. A full ten pages are devoted to "race" artists and titles in this catalog for RCA Victor subsidiary Bluebird Records, which include Memphis Slim, Arthur "Big Boy" Crudup and Tampa Red. There are also four pages of Mexican artists and titles.

Condition: About Fine. László Willinger (photographer) (illustrator). [Los Angeles]: Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, [1940]. Vintage original 10 x 13" (25 x 32 cm.) black-and-white double weight glossy silver gelatin photo. Soiling on verso edge right and bottom, about fine. Ann Rutherford poses in a suit designed by Dolly Tree. Tree designed many of the MGM lady stars' wardrobes for contemporary stories. This one, about a young newlywed, required Rutherford to pose for styles to be used in newspaper and magazine fashion layouts. The printed blurb on verso refers to this suit as something a young woman must budget for when she plans to marry, this being a suit which will not "bulge her budget". Of course, few brides at the time could afford a custom-made couture suit by Dolly Tree. It appears that photographer László Willinger (his ink stamp on verso) posed Rutherford on location during a late-California afternoon.

Vintage original 10 x 13" (25 x 32 cm.) black-and-white double weight glossy silver gelatin photo. Minor crease at top right edge. Near Fine. Robert Taylor is silhouetted with his shadow in this classic noirish example of male portrait photography. As the original blurb typed on verso indicates, he was in the midst of filming Waterloo Bridge with Vivien Leigh and Escape with Norma Shearer. Taylor was the top romantic lead paired with many of the MGM star actresses. Ink stamped by photographer László Willinger.

Condition: Fine. [Hollywood: Metro-Goldwyn-Meyer, 1957]. Vintage original 10 x 8" (25 x 20 cm.) double weight portrait. With studio printed text on verso, fine. Portrait of Juano Hernandez as "Njogu". Bogle, Blacks in American Films, p. 401; "One of the first of the post-World War II new-style Black screen actors [who] played strong, dramatic, often fiercely independent characters.".

Condition: Near Fine. [New York]: NBC, 1938. Vintage original borderless 8 1/2 x 5 1/2" (22 x 14 cm) black-and-white photo. Three punch holes on left, with printed text on verso. Overall near fine. Carlos Chávez had at this point become acknowledged as a preeminent Mexican composer, whose music was being played at concerts in the US. In 1938, he came to New York to conduct the NBC Symphony Orchestra for a couple of radio concerts, as documented here.

Lovely double weight sepia portrait (stamped by Clarence Bull on verso) of the dynamic romantic singing team. They are dressed in period garb by Adrian and Gile Steele. Based on the operetta The New Moon by Sigmund Romberg and Oscar Hammerstein II.

Three vintage original 5 x 7" (13 x 18 cm) black-and-white photos, two with his name circled in green ink, overall near fine. Three portraits of Czech novelist Milan Kundera, two of them issued at the time of publication of The Book of Laughter and Forgetting and The Joke.

No Binding. Condition: Near Fine. Hollywood: Np, [1938]. Vintage original 8 x 10" (20 x 25 cm.) black-and-white single weight glossy silver gelatin photo. Crease at top left corner, minor chip near bottom right corner. About fine. Original blurb on verso tells us that Ed Sullivan, then a Chicago Tribune film correspondent, has crowned Tyrone Power and Jeanette McDonald as King and Queen of the movies for 1939. Power is seen in theatres in Twentieth Century Fox's Suez and MacDonald is finishing Broadway Serenade which will come out for 1939.

A portrait of the French existentialist philosopher, writer, social theorist and feminist Simone de Beauvoir, perhaps best known for her trailblazing book of feminist philosophy, The Second Sex.

No Binding. Condition: Fine. [Los Angeles: Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, 1942]. Vintage original 10 x 13" (25 x 32 cm.) black-and-white double weight glossy silver gelatin photo. Minor wear, fine. Ann Sothern wears peasant blouse and cameo necklace and earrings. Always in style, they were very popular during the 1940s. An ink stamp of 2203 appears on verso for this portrait which most likely promoted her 1943 World War II story, Cry 'Havoc'.

No binding. Condition: Fine. [Los Angeles: Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, 1944]. Vintage original 10 x 13" (25 x 32 cm.) black-and-white double weight glossy silver gelatin photo. Ink stamped 2923 on verso. Fine. Popular songstress Ginny Simms made her MGM debut for 1944's Broadway Rhythm, for which this photo publicized. After years of radio, recording and big band singing, notably with Kay Kyser's orchestra, she ventured into movies. During her brief stay at MGM she was escorted about town by none other than Louis B. Mayer, who was taking a break from marriage for a few years.

From caption: "National Guardsmen stand guard while workers clean up debris inside a looted dry cleaning establishment. Troops were sent in by Gov. Nunn 5/27 to help local authorities quell rioting in the predominantly Negro West End." The unrest in Louisville was part of a large group of insurrections which broke out all over the country after the assassination of Martin Luther King.
