In The Road to Elsewhere, David Gregor revisits decisive moments that shaped his creative life. These stories and vignettes of love, loss, and illumination range in length from a paragraph to a few pages. Together, they create a patchwork portrait revealing the power of the smallest gestures to exact meaningful change in a life. The stories are told in the zigzag way our memories appear--randomly without design yet with a purpose. Our stories help us reflect on how we got from there to here and how to move forward. The Road to Elsewhere is more than a memoir; it is a love letter to memory and the meaning found in life's little moments. Signed by Author(s).

Here, in several extended book reviews, he celebrates the creative spirit of Henry Miller, Charles Bukowski, and Irving Stettner while taking potshots at the academy and commercial publishing. Three essays on contemporary poetry and an article on B. Traven round out the volume. Passionate about literature, Joyce frequently goes out of his way to antagonize a literary establishment that places profit and political correctness before artistic vision. His blunt, sometimes crude language may put off some readers, but Joyce will not put anyone to sleep. The health of literary criticism in America today depends on voices like his.

In these poems Jorie Graham approaches a number of numinous characters, each an embodiment of sexual, emotional, political or spiritual desire -- desire seeking its place in an age of betrayed values, where dreaming has been rubbed thin by reason, frayed by the speed of facts. Error is explored as the heroic form of finding one's way--a purposeful wandering toward truth, a pilgrimage in which the heart's longing is guide. Lovers celebrate the body; angels deliver celestial warnings. Sacred and spiritual, celestial and corporeal, coexist.
