Collection of eleven "Flash Gordon" comic books, published variously between 1934 and 1948 as part of the Big Little Books series by the Whitman Publishing Company. Represented in the collection are issue Nos. 1110, 1166, 1171, 1190, 1407, 1423, 1443, 1447, 1469, 1484, and 1492. King Features Syndicate artist Alex Raymond was initially commissioned to create a science fiction comic strip to mirror the success of the National Newspaper Syndicate's "Buck Rogers" strip. The resultant series first appeared in print on January 7, 1934, and was published in over 130 newspapers by the late 1930s.
