SPLAT! Nos. 01-03 [A Complete Run]

Three issues each [32]pp., with semi-glossy color covers, and b/w interiors. "Surely one of the best "alternative" anthologies ever attempted. If each issue has its share of duff stories, each also has at least one strip that, on its own, is worth the price of admission. Issue #1 has an early Peter Bagge strip from 1982, "Just Like Pop," plus good stuff from Ron Wilber, J.R.Williams and Hunt Emerson, but is the weakest of the three issues overall. Issue #2 has Eddie Campbell’s "Dead End Job," Marc Hempel’s "Cartoon Man’s Best Friend," reprints of Alan Moore’s Maxwell The Magic Cat and more Peter Bagge, J.R.Williams and Hunt Emerson. Issue #3 has a sneak preview of Ted McKeever’s Eddy Current and a Calvin and Hobbes parody by Scott Saavedra. In addition each issue had an interview with a humor cartoonist: S.Gross, P.S.Mueller and B.Kliban respectively." ~ Slings & Arrows Comic Guide. Saddle-stapled wraps. Light shelfwear. Very good.
