About the Author

Antonio Machado Ruiz (Sevilla, 1875-Colliure, 1939) fue un poeta espa�ol, el m�s joven representante de la generaci�n del 98. Su obra inicial, de corte modernista (como la de su hermano Manuel), evolucion� hacia un intimismo simbolista con rasgos rom�nticos, que madur� en una poes�a de compromiso humano, de una parte, y de contemplaci�n casi tao�sta de la existencia, por otra; una s�ntesis que en la voz de Machado se hace eco de la sabidur�a popular m�s ancestral. Dicho en palabras de Gerardo Diego, �hablaba en verso y viv�a en poes�a�. Fue uno de los alumnos distinguidos de la Instituci�n Libre de Ense�anza (ILE), con cuyos idearios estuvo siempre comprometido. Muri� en el exilio en la agon�a de la Segunda Rep�blica Espa�ola.
