[Japan]: late Edo. Carved on one side, this woodblock was created to print a hikifuda ??, a handbill, flyer, or inserted advertisement for stores or products. This woodblock, with a fine carved illustration of the main street of Sendai in Miyagi prefecture, advertises the general store of Konishi Rihei ????? in Sendai. His eponymous store was known for its creative and forward-thinking merchandise selection. From the text, we learn that the store also specialized in prestige teas and was a supplier to the bakufu.
