1543 Alardus of Amsterdam Bible Commentary Erasmus Chrysostom Ambrose Gregory Alardus of Amsterdam was a 16th-century Dutch scholar known for his collection of writings and commentaries of church fathers such as Erasmus and Johannes Chrysostom. First published in 1539, Similitudines and was unquestionably his most popular work mostly because of the extensive commentary of Erasmus, with whom he was personally quite close. Other important church fathers included in this work include Theophylact of Ohrid, Origen, Gregory of Nazianzus, Saint Basil the Great, Joannis Cassiani, Saint Cypriani, Pope Hilarius, Saint Jerome, Saint Ambrose, Saint Augustine, Pope Gregory the Great, Seneca the Younger, Lactantius, Saint Rupert of Salzburgh, and many others. This rare 1543 edition was published by Frellon in Lyon; though it does not appear in Adams.
