Light wear to extremities with minor scuffing along edges. Tips abraded and worn to the board. Light abrasions to surface of marbled wrappers. Spine in lovely shape with small area of loss at head. Beautiful gilt lyre motif stamped onto compartments. Presents well. Internally good with light toning throughout. A few instances of staining. A small tear at margin of 113 - 114 p. Binding intact. Guillaume Thomas Fran�ois Raynal (1713 1796), also known as Abb� Raynal, was a French writer, former Catholic priest, and man of letters during the Age of Enlightenment. In May 1754, he was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society. In 1775, he was elected as a member to the American Philosophical Society. Raynal is one of the first to write about the American Revolution in 1776. One of several unauthorized versions printed in 1781 and probably, as the others, with a false imprint.
