In fair condition. Boards attached via cording only - VERY FRAGILE. Head and tail of spine chipped; exposed binding at tail. Title label chipped at fore-edge with loss of text; gilt lettering moderately soiled & illegible. Spine desiccated with some cracking parallel to hinges. Professional binder's tape found in front gutter. Pencil marginalia on end-pages; scratched out ownership name on front paste-down. Toning with regular age-staining throughout text-block. Binding intact; hinges fragile. Please see photos. David Humphreys (1752-1818) was an American Revolutionary colonel and aide de camp to George Washington, a secretary and intelligence agent for Benjamin Franklin in Paris, American minister to Portugal and then to Spain, entrepreneur who brought Merino sheep to America and member of the Connecticut state legislature.
