Here is an antique, first edition copy of Rambles in Search of Wild Flowers and How to Distinguish Them by Margaret Plues. Being a first edition, published in 1863 by The Journal of Horticulture and Cottage Gardener Office. With 18 superb colour plates and a number of wood engravings. Condition in detail below.
A delightful Victorian nature classic by botanist and writer Margaret Plues, Rambles in Search of Wild Flowers offers a charming blend of natural history, field observation, and gentle storytelling. Plues guides the reader through woods, meadows, and riverbanks, introducing Britain?s wild flowers with warmth, clarity, and period botanical knowledge.
Inside the pages are clean and bright. With the occasional small pencil note in the margin, usually a date or place at which a particular flower was spotted by a previous owner. (Also has a small dried flower pressed between two pages - I have left this in place). Has a cracked hinge at the beginning to reveal webbing and giving the front board a mild wobble. A partially cracked hinge at the back - just starting. All eighteen superb colour plates are present and in good condition.
Green cloth over boards have gilt floral decoration in the middle of the front board, and gilt titles to the spine. Rubbing around the edges and rounding to the corners. Slight rubbing to the spine ends, with a few small splits in the cloth.
Your antique copy of Rambles in Search of Wild Flowers will be wrapped with care in tissue and ribbon* and sent well packaged. I am always happy to add a gift card with a message to the parcel.
