Bound in wooden boards, approximately 9.5 x 13", 23pp. This 1939 calendar features 22 woodblock prints by artists like Rockwell Kent and Charles Heaney, some in color, showcasing various aspects of American life and landscapes. Publisher's balsa wood covers with cloth top strip and bound together using two metal screws in fine condition. The American Block Print Calendar was a series of limited-edition art calendars published by Gutenberg Publishing Company in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, during the late 1930s. These calendars featured original prints by prominent American artists and were created as part of the Works Progress Administration's Federal Art Project (WPA/FAP), which aimed to support artists during the Great Depression. In addition to the front cover illustration by Birger Sandzen, includes contributions by Frank Hartley Anderson, Todros Geller (Yemenite Beggar), Gerhard Bakker, Alexander Masley, Charles Heaney (Oregon Town), Florence V.
