Double sided discharge certificate on parchment, part printed part manuscript, approximately 200mm x 265mm in size. Creased from old folds, lightly browned and a little soiled, hole from a hole punch to upper left hand corner. The discharge certificate of a Private William Herring of Canterbury, Kent, from the 48th Regiment of Foot. He had joined in 1836, at the age of fourteen, and spent five years in Gibraltar and three years in the West Indies. He was discharged with a pound in Marching Money Size: 4to.
