CONDITION DESCRIPTION: Covers soiled, rubbed on edges and corners. Interior is clean and tight. CONTENTS DESCRIPTION: This book contains a short history of the 8th Division; and a larger and more detailed history of the 13th Infantry Regiment and its activities during World War II, while serving in the European Theater. Well illustrated, and includes portrait photographs of the members of the 13th Regiment, taken in September 1945. Then 13th Infantry played a significant role during combat operations in Europe. The regiment found itself fighting through the hedgerows of France beginning in July 1944, and led the drive to the Ay River, and its first action occurred on the 9th of July, 1944, when the Third Battalion cleared out pockets of resistance in the town of La Haye du Puits, capturing approximately 100 prisoners. The regiment spent ten months in combat in Normandy, Northern France, The Rhineland and Central Europe. It occupied a position on the Siegfried Line and was involved in the Battle for Brest and the Battle of Hurtgen Forest.
