Vickie L. Rogers, MS, RHIA, has been a consultant conducting seminars and advising healthcare clients nationally on coding systems, reimbursement, and documentation issues since 1983. Vickie has 30 years of experience in the healthcare field.

For nine years, she was an educator at the associate and baccalaureate degree levels. She has worked for "Big Five" public accounting firms as an employee or a contractor since 1983. During that time she has assisted hospitals and health systems across the United States with coding assessments (including inpatient, outpatient, and chargemaster maintenance), coder training, operations redesign, and interim management. In 1990 she formed her own company, V. L. Rogers & Associates, a health information management company dedicated to the improvement of coded healthcare data in the United States. Since 1995, she has worked on numerous compliance engagements for hospitals and health systems, assisting them with the task of analyzing the quality of their coded data.

She teaches seminars related to compliance for inpatient and outpatient coding activities, the clinical and technical aspects of coding, reimbursement as it relates to the practice of coding, documentation of medical necessity, and how to improve the work processes within health information management departments. She has written articles for the Journal of AHIMA on a variety of coding subjects, including the outpatient prospective payment system for Medicare.

Ms. Rogers received her Bachelor of Science in health information management from Indiana University in 1971, and a Masters of Science from The Ohio State University in March 1980. She is a member of the American Health Information Management Association and the Society for Clinical Coding.
