400pp. Backed in contemporary red sheep with marbled paper covered boards; textblock is untrimmed (generous margins) and is a bit larger than the boards making this appear to be a publisher's binding; it is handsome though it is moderately to heavily rubbed at the extremities; previous owner names include an early 19th century bookplate on the front pastedown of Andrew Alexander of Lexington, Virginia; Alexander owned Brusby Hill springs of which he deeded half of the water rights to the town of Lexington in the 1820s. A decade later, Virginia Military Institute purchased the rights to pipe water in from the same spring . largely insignificant, but interesting nevertheless; Very Good binding.
