Hald leathert and marbled boards with gilt lettered sp. lettering and gilt dec. panel dividers; clean with several minor faults: primarily slight rubbing to edges, but 2 cm paper loss to lower back fore-edge Vol.1, a few small patches of surface blistering of marbled paper to fr. Top edges gilt. Vol. 1 of little consequence, also three very small blisters top Vol.2, two miinor surface scrapes elsewhere, despite these faults this remains near fine for size and age. Vol.1: t.p. + vi + 20 pp. intro. text only paginated up to p.6 + 81 un-numbered plates illustrating 28 'Subjects', these on recto only, occasionally interleaved with a blank, occ. tanning spots or patches, marbled end-papers. Vol.2: t.p. + vi + 13 + 40 pp. unpaginated text + 80 plates illustrating 35 'Subjects) (as with Vol.1 some properties have 2 plate blocks), again iocc. interleaved blanks, tanning spots and small patches to unpaginated text and occ. to plates; both Vols have a 10 cm x 17 cm heraldic prize label to front pastedown from the British Institute of Architecture 'The Ashpital Prize, 1888 Awarded to Mr Henry Ernest Stelfox. Stelfox (1856-1904) was a highly regarded Manchester architecture, specializing in school design it seems, though clearly died prematurely, this prize is mentioned in the Architects of Greater Manchester 1800-1940 website entry on him. The plates are of various kinds from drawings of properties to floor planes and architectural details. More images can be supplied, limited to 5 on this sire.
