The Angler's Vade Mecum Containing a Descriptive Account of the Water Flies, Their Seasons, and the Kind of Weather That Brings Them Most on the Water to Wich is Added a Description of the Different Baits Used in Angling, and Where to Find Them. Book: Bound in contemporary full dark blue morocco, with a highly decorated spine and gilt lettering. A single gilt edge border at outside of front and rear boards. One scrape mark at top of front board. Housed in a custom two part slipcase, with spine in blue morocco with five raised bands, gilt lettering. Marbled edges to text block. The twelve hand colored copper engraved plates consist of 194 flies arranged by the months of May to September. One of the earliest books for the dry-fly purist. This copy is from the library of James Benkard, with his bookplate and signature. James Benkard was past president of South Side Club of Island from 1879-1883 Then later from the sporting library of Samuel B. Webb, with his hunting bookplate also affixed.
