485 pp. First edition; text in Spanish; full leather with gold stamped front cover and gold stamping across the spine; green-gold and red, tri-color band (colors of Bolivia's flag), diagonally across the front cover; all edges gilt, marble endpapers; large map enclosed in rear pocket. Binding tight with minor rubbing; map pristine; internally fine; see additional images provided. This book is very rare. It is a iscussion of notes and documents that led up to the Brazil-Bolivia treaty wherein Brazil obtained the territory of Acre in exchange for allowing Bolivia (a landlocked country) access to the Amazon and Atlantic Ocean via the Madre de Dios River; ostensably for the exportation of rubber and other rainforest products. The book is in three parts: 1) all documents and publications by the press that relate to the treaty; 2) memorial de los sucesos que presencia o de los que tuve especial conocimiento, llanamente expresados y fielmente relacionados con los documentos que he podido haber; and 3) Official Documents: from the Delegacion del Madre de Dios, de la Prefectura del Beni, del "Comite Directivo de la "Columna Porvenir" llamado tambien de "Defensa Nacional"; hay publicaciones de prensa contemporeneas de los acontecimientos, y otras posteriores que a ellos se refieren; hay cartas y atestaciones de personas que residean en la zona de operaciones, que fueron testigos de la campana o de ciertos detalles anexos a la campana que hacia la "Columna Porvenir"; hay cartas y atestaciones de los empleados de las barracas gomeras de Suarez Hermanos, que intervinieron en la campana misma o que prestaron servicios auxiliares; hay atestaciones de miembros del "Comite Directivo de la "Columna Porvenir", de oficiales e individuos de la tropa de esta columna, que aon sobreviven; hay, en fin, atestaciones de personas de credito y distinguida posician social u oficial o politica, que tuvieron oportunidad para haber conocido o tenido noticias fidedignas de las operaciones relacionadas con la campana del Alto Acre. Son 138 Documentos. Para demostrar mas graficamente, si fuese posible, estos que llamareamos episodios acreanos, con cita de fechas, ubicacion de barracas, etc., acompano a este libro un plano comprensivo del territorio a que se extendean las proyecciones del movimiento revolucionario de 1902.
