Covering the period from 1839 to 1914, this book describes, and illustrates with line drawings, the development of early cameras from the first hand-made polished mahogany boxes to the precision engineering of the Folding Kodak. The first part deals with the advancements of the Victorian period: collapsible cameras, stereoscopic and panoramic cameras, the evolution of the bellows camera. And then, after 40 years of long, timed exposures, a chance discovery reduced exposures to a small fraction of a second. The second part follows the rise of the new photography which resulted from the momentous development. 160 pages; 132 b&w photos and illustrations; 6 x 8 inches. Ref V V V 2.
