Good. - Small quarto [approximately 9-3/4 inches high by 7 inches wide], softcover bound in printed tan wrappers with an ad for Isis on the rear cover. There is light creasing to the corners & edges of the covers. There are a few stains to the front cover & an inscription is penned at the top. There is a partial stamp at the top of the rear cover. 19 pages. Black-and-white illustrations. Good. George Sarton [1884-1956] was a Belgian born American chemist and historian. He is considered the founder of the discipline of the history of science. His most influential work was the "Introduction to the History of Science", which consists of three volumes and 4,296 pages. He ultimately aimed to achieve an integrated philosophy of science that provided a connection between the sciences and humanities, which he referred to as "the new humanism". Sarton founded and was the first editor of Isis, "International Review devoted to the History of Science and Civilization", from which this essay was reprinted. Seller Inventory # 98968
