Published in Shrewsbury, Shropshire in 1834 this is the First Edition of this very scarce book illustrating the armorial bearings of Shropshire families, running to 25 pages, 23 having been used, the final two pages are printed with blank heraldic shields with no crests added, page 23 comes to the end alphabet covering the Shropshire families with surname letters W & Y, the crests are listed in alphabetical order, book containing over 200 hand coloured family crests, with nine shields per page, there are no text pages, just the title page followed by the crests, bound in a nice old contemporary half leather binding, titled and decorated in gilt to the spine, with marbled paper covered boards and marbled endpapers, just under 12 inches tall, the hand colouring is a little crude in places, but I assume it is contemporary with the age of the book there is no author credited, but it has been attributed to William G. Rowlands, the boards are rubbed with some wear at edges else the binding is in good solid condition, internally a few stray brush marks from the hand colouring else contents generally nice and clean A NICE EXAMPLE OF THIS VERY SCARCE PUBLICATION.
