CONTENTS DESCRIPTION: One of the best narratives of a private soldier in the Army of the Potomac. Gerrish, of the famous 20th Maine Infantry, provides vivid details of what he saw and felt during those days of camp, march, bivouac, battlefield and hospital, often in minute detail. It possesses great interest and value; includes comments on Grant, Meade, Hooker, Joshua Chamberlain, and others with whom he came in contact.
