A very scarce example With 44 tipped-in color plates by Arthur Rackham, each with a captioned tissue-guard. 4to, publisher s original hazel cloth gilt decorated and lettered on both the spine and upper cover featuring designs by Rackham. 43, [plates]. A very bright and pleasing copy, the text and plates all very fine, a little offsetting to the free-flies as is common, the cloth bright and unfaded, corners and edges sharp and unrubbed, some light age evidence. FIRST EDITION, AN EARLY COPY, WITH PUBLISHER'S COMPLIMENTS SLIP DATED AND A HANDSOME COPY OF THIS EXCELLENT BOOK. a fine, representative collection of Rackham's imaginative drawings. Some of these had been published before only in magazines or periodicals, in most cases as sketches or black and white drawings only. They are reproduced as finished colour pictures here for the first time. The choice of artwork represents a broad spectrum of Rackham's diverse talents, from the dark and fantastical to the bright and whimsical.
