About this Item

Description:

t.p.+pp.133-183+unf.chart, 19 full-page plates of positions land masses through geological history, 2 text figs; internally generally clean and unmarked but ouer corners all slightly curled/rubbed, main problem however is that following the t.p. the textblock appears have been crudely stapled (doubly at top) with staples now rusting and tearing to staple ara both on p.133 and to end chart, this seems to be an original binding error and would require skilled conservation to resolve, it does not however affect the text itself. The jacket has a 4 cm x 0.4 cm chip towards top back outer edge, creasing across top back outer corner, faint scattered brown flecking to front and faint edge browning; spine was seriously fraying but this now fairly effectively closed with transparent archival tear-repair tape. Genuinely not as bad as all this sounds. Davidson Black, who died at 49 shortly after this, his final work, was published was the leading exponent of the Far East origins theory of human evolution and scientifically identified and named Peking Man 'Sinanhtropus pekinensis' (now Homo erectus pekinensis) on the basis of fragments before the famous skull was discovered. This is, though it proved erroneous, a landmark paper in the history of human evolution studies and is extremely rare. Note: quoted shipping rates are calculated for 500-700 gram net weight, cost will be modified up or down as appropriate outside this range. Size: 18.5 Cms x 26 Cms. Seller Inventory # 008892
