THE ATTIC - Scarce Pristine Copy of The First Edition/First Printing

1st Printing. 150 pages. Published in 2012. The author's debut novel, published fifty-two years later in English translation. Danilo Kis' assured first book. The first appearance of the title in English and in the United States. Precedes and should not be confused with all other subsequent editions. Published in a small and limited first print run as a softcover original only. Presents Danilo Kis' "The Attic" in a felicitous English translation. Prefatory Essay by John K. Cox. Kis' account of blissful youth, its vanities, indiscretions, irresponsibilities, and its serious artistic ambitions. As such, it is grounded in - soaked in - real life as the author seeks to "find a way to balance his life, his loves, and his art". "Verging into eternity, does to his characters what nearly every known creed aspires to do to the human soul. It extends their existence; it erodes our sense of death's impenetrability" (Joseph Brodsky). "Eternity" - that is, literary immortality - is the reason his novel is not explicitly autobiographical: The protagonist's name is Orpheus. An absolute "must-have" title for Danilo Kis collectors. This title is a late-modern classic. This is one of few copies of the First Edition/First Printing (American) still available online and is in especially fine condition: Clean, crisp, and bright. Please note: This is a copy of the 2012 First Edition. Copies available online have serious flaws or are in subsequent printings. This is surely an accessible and lovely alternative. A scarce copy thus. One of the greatest writers of the 20th century. A fine copy. (SEE ALSO OTHER DANILO KIS TITLES IN OUR CATALOG) ISBN 1564787346.…
