[Gastronomy] FIRST SOFTCOVER EDITION, and HARDBACK REISSUE. Two volumes. Octavo (20 x 24cm, and 14 x 21cm). Both volumes illustrated throughout. 1967 edition in publisher's photographic covers designed by Raymond Hawkey, reissue in with same artwork, adding a four-line quote from Michael Caine. Both clean copies, with very light handling to softback, the reissue as new. Len Deighton's pictorial 'Cook Strips' originally appeared in The Observer. This is the first of several cookery books from the celebrated author, who originally trained as a chef, including his own illustrations. Michael Caine was a long-time friend of the author, portraying his series character 'Harry Palmer' in five blockbuster spy films. Seller Inventory # 66180

The cookstrips are reproduced here, with additional notes, as well as chapters such as 'The Secret Weapon in the Kitchen: the Blender' and 'Bachelor Foods (The Quick Cook)'.
