Written by English novelist, poet and short story writer Rudyard Kipling, who was born in India, a country which inspired much of his work. This work is comprised of eight short stories and eight poems by Kipling, including 'With the Night Mail' and 'The House Surgeon'. The majority of these were written between 1905 and 1909, appearing initially in newspapers individually. Kipling creates many characters who are there for the sole purpose to listen to a narrator telling his story. Illustrated with seven plates and a frontispiece, collated complete. With a number of different artists, including Clara Elsene Williams, George Gibbs and C. B. Falls, among others. Contemporary ink inscription to the front paste down, dated 1909.
