First English edition. Small 4to. pp. [xxx] + 357 plus errata leaf supplied in facsimile. In near-contemporary full panelled calf, expertly re-backed with sewn endbands head and tail, and original spine laid down. Early ownership signature: "E libris Robti. Hoyi. 1726" to rear pastedown. Mc Kerrow mentions in his dictionary: "Brookes (William) bookseller in London 1636-1640 at his shop in Holborn in Turnstile Lane. 1639 name appears in some copies of Admirable Events." Other copies bear the imprint "London. Printed by Thomas Harper for Abel Roper at the Black Spread Eagle over against St. Dunstan s Church in Fleet St." Jean Pierre Camus (1584 - 1682) wrote many novels on mainly religious themes. S.[usan] Du Verger is credited with the translation of "Admirable Events", while "Certain Moral Relations", is credited to T. B. (probably Thomas Brugis). STC 4549. Esdaile p. 27.
