First edition, first issue, Webster, 1885, original publisher's half-morocco binding, rebacked. Reportedly one of only 500 copies of the first edition done in this deluxe format, with the half morocco binding. Of the total first edition of 20,000 to 30,000 copies, only approximately 500 were done in the half-morocco format, 2500 in publisher's sheep, and the rest in cloth (the vast majority of the cloth copies were green, a small fraction blue). This is the true first printing according to MacDonnell with the critical issue points -- "Huck Decided" on page 9, Him and Another Man incorrectly listed in the illustrations table for page 88, and "with the was" instead of "with the saw" on page 57. In addition, page 283 is conjugate with the original curved fly illustration, before the illustration was altered and then censored and replaced. All cloth copies have the later state of the censored illustration. Very good condition, residue of tape repair on front endpapers. Housed in a custom-made collector's slipcase.
