Two vols., 12mos; xxii [1], 324; xii, 366; full red morocco gilt (by Scroll Club, NY) with gilt spines and panels, dentelles, doublures and endleaves of blue moire; t.e.g. The first edition of Smollett's first novel was a popular success, and a second was produced in the same year (with frontispieces added). This set is the more common issue with I9 a cancel in Vol. 1. Glue stains to preliminaries where bookplates were likely once affixed; a bit of rubbing to hinges and edges. An attractive set.
