The first edition of Virgil's 'Aeneid' to be translated by William Morris.'Aeneid' is an epic poem, written between 29 and 19 BC, following the legend of Aeneas, a Trojan who fled the fall of Troy and travelled to Italy, where he became the ancestor of the Romans.Translated by William Morris, who stated that he approached his translation work with a unique view as "a poet not a pedant".William Morris was a noted Victorian textile designer, artist, and poet, largely associated with the British Arts and Crafts Movement, and the Pre-Raphaelite movement. He was one of the most significant cultural figures of the century. In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally, generally smart. Light bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities, with small tears to the head of the joints, and a couple of very small chips to the joints, heavier to the head of the rear joint. Spine label is age-toned and rubbed and chipped. A few light marks and a little light rubbing to the boards and spine. Front hinge is starting but firm. Spots to the paste downs and endpapers.
