Near Fine in a Near Fine+ mylar-protected Dust Jacket. The Text Block is clean, white, tight, straight and slightly canted, with no markings of any kind. The Binding is full red-brown cloth, some discoloration at the fore-edges, with bright silver title to the front board, bright silver title on black to the spine, and silver author and publisher, unmarked white endpapers, and all corners square and sharp. The mylar-protected Dust Jacket is bright yellow, faded at the spine with some discoloration to the rear panel fore-edge, and fully intact with the original price ($5.00) intact on the front flap. See the photos. xii, 368 pages. 5 1/2" x 8 1/4". A treatise on post-WW2 economics in America, the author described how the United States was becoming wealthy in the private sector but remained poor in the public sector, lacking social and physical infrastructure, and perpetuating income disparities. He argued that the "dependence effect," where advertising creates artificial consumer wants, leading to an overemphasis on private consumption at the expense of public investment in areas like education, parks, and transportation, was undermining the nation.
