A good deal of After the Ball, with Captain Charles Ambrose's illustrations, appeared originally in Eve (now Britannia and Eve). I wish to thank the Editor of the journal for permission to reprint, revise and enlarge that part of the book, and to reproduce its pictures, and also the Editor of The Tatler and the Morning Post who have allowed me to make similar use of articles which first appeared in their pages.
