Scarce First Edition, dated 1877. Clean and tightly bound in rust cloth with gold and black titles. Light edge wear, very slight spine slant and faint spots on the text block edge. Hinge paper splits at the front and rear endpapers (not affecting the binding integrity). This copy is from a 19th Century private lending institution, the Mercantile Library of New York City. There are no external indications of the library's ownership. A handwritten number and Mercantile Library stamp on the title page and some of the internal pages.
