8vo., First Edition, with 27 plates on 16, a full-page map in the text and front and rear endpaper maps in green; cloth, backstrip lettered in gilt and red, a very good, bright, clean copy in price-clipped dustwrapper, the latter very lightly age-soiled on (predominantly white) rear panel. BEHR'S FIRST BOOK, a classic study and the forerunner to an illustrious career. Edward Behr (1926-2007) was a leading war reporter of the latter half of the twentieth century. In a long career that included Reuters, Time-Life, Newsweek and many others, he covered the conflicts in Algeria, North Africa, Indo-China, Vietnam and China. Towards In the second half of his career he shifted to documentaries, including The American Way of Death, Emperor Hirohito and Tiananmen Square. In 1978 he published his memoirs 'Bearings: A Foreign Correspondent's Life Behind the Lines'; in the UK they were graphically retitled 'Anyone Here Been Raped and Speaks English?'
