Add to basketFantastically whimsical letters of the alphabet, four letters per card, 24 cards in all (out of 26 we would assume). The letters are formed using circus performers, mostly acrobats, one or two per letter, with some occasional assist in shaping the letter from a prop the performer(s) would be using in their act. The way the game is played is explained on the back of the box, which is is 9 by 6 cm, and 1 cm thick. Each player in his turn tries to advance the alphabet as long as he can. When he doesn't have the succeeding letter, the next player goes. Whoever gets rid of all his cards first wins. N.d., second half of the nineteenth century, and we think probably the 1880s. There is no indication of a publisher. Bavaria is printed, and we assume this means that the chromolithography was done there, but that doesn't mean the publisher was from there by any means. We do not have the cards whose first letter, the one in the upper left, "J" and "Y". Since it is the letter design which is what matters most, though, we have all but two letters rendered four times. The box is rough, with significant losses, including the top and bottom, but the rules of the game are present as well as the chromolithographic illustration of a clown on the front. The cards are heavily age toned but otherwise clean and nicely preserved.

The shipping cost provided automatically by ABE assumes that the item is the size of an average hardcover book. Since our stock is comprised largely of material which is bigger and heavier, we will often need to request additional shipping charges as a result. We pride ourselves on always packing safely, with the actual materials and method of packing depending on the item(s), where it is going, and with whom we are shipping. We most frequently use the post office, but on some high value items, or upon request, we may use alternatively UPS or FedEx. With the postal service, to domestic destinations with lower value items and the automatically furnished ABE shipping quote, we will usually use Media Mail; on higher value items we are partial to Priority or Express Mail. We will always seek to comply with a customer's wishes if they are communicated to us. When we seek additional shipping charges, we pass along those charges at our cost -- we do not add for handling or materials generally.
