An illustrated monograph on the Italian painter and sculptor Amedeo Modigliani (1884?1920). It belongs to the well-known ?Masters of Art? / "The Library of Great Painters" series (published by Harry N. Abrams) and combines a biographical and critical essay with numerous reproductions of the artist?s work.Werner presents both the life and the art of Modigliani, the short-lived artist who became one of the most recognizable figures of the early-twentieth-century Parisian avant-garde. The book traces his background in Italy, his move to Paris in 1906, his immersion in the bohemian circles of Montmartre and Montparnasse, and the personal struggles that marked his brief career.ABOUT THIS COPY: Bound in grey cloth with gilt lettering on the cover and spine. 122 illustrations, including 48 tipped-on full color plates. 159 pp. Illustrated dust jacket.
