Edward Newton's famous recounting of his adventures as he compiled an astounding collection of rare books. The industrialist's collection numbered about 10,000 items at the time of his death in 1940. With dozens of black & white illustrations including photos, manuscript, leaf & letter facsimiles and drawings scattered throughout. Includes a new introduction by Mr. Newton for the Modern Library. Volume wrapped in jacket with reproduction of Mr. Newton's Temple Bar bookplate to front panel. --- In Toledano spine 7 / green balloon cloth / limp boards / gilt cover torchbearer / gilt spine titling with interconnected "ML" device / green topstain / orange Kent endpapers / jacket style e, verso lists 239 titles in ML catalog.
